Mt. Talinis

Dumaguete is built on the shores of Negros Oriental beneath the reassuring presence of Mt. Talinis, the second highest peak in the Visayas next to the more famous extinct volcano, Mt. Canlaon. Dumaguete also is famous about there beaches and their mountains and it is where you will see that there are a lot of mountaineering clubs, climbers, and mountaineers spend their time in Mt. Talinis or Mt. Canlaon. According to historian Caridad Aldecoa-Rodriguez, the first recorded sighting of this part of the Philippines was by members of Miguel Lopez de Legaspi’s expedition in 1565. He had sent a frigate to check out the islands that could be seen from Bohol and they came back with stories of this lush island with dark-skinned people, hence the name "Negros".

Mt Talinis is famous because of its nice view so breathtaking, the twin lakes that you will find namely Lake Nailig and Lake Yagumyum. There are many trees you can find when you reach the forest line, and when you reach the sulfur vent the smell of sulfur so strong but you will see a nice view from the top when you reach the summit of Mt. Talinis. Many climbers from different mountaineering club had able to climb mt. Talinis but sadly I am not one of them but soon I will go there and I will show to you how great it is.
